Custom Beach Designs Sustainable Outdoor Hospitality Solutions
Featuring Thomas Bache-Wiig

CustomBeach is a leading manufacturer of outdoor hospitality and beautiful, sustainable construction and design based in Miami, Florida. The company was founded by Thomas Bache-Wiig, a native Norwegian with a background in Scandinavian construction and design. Bache-Wiig has experience working in carpentry, construction, and hospitality. He studied architecture at Cornell University and worked in architecture for many years. CustomBeach is the culmination of all his education and experience.

In 2009, CustomBeach completed its first beach hut for a water sports vendor on Miami Beach. The service hut caught the eye of the exclusive Soho Beach House, and CustomBeach was hired to build several beach and storage huts for them.

With the growing need of “on-brand” individual designs for boutique hotels combined with quality crafted products, the huts quickly became a desired product for hotels, and resorts on Miami Beach and beyond. In addition to beach huts, CustomBeach has expanded its product portfolio to include a variety of outdoor hospitality solutions such as host stands, towel bins, trash and recycling bins, retail displays, and mobile bars.

Since CustomBeach focuses solely on hospitality for outdoor spaces, the ability to withstand different weather conditions is essential. This is one of the reasons Kebony modified wood has been used on several CustomBeach projects. Bache-Wiig described Kebony as being durable as a decking or paneling option. He also appreciates that Kebony is a sustainable alternative to tropical hardwoods, which is helpful for clients who want the appearance of hardwood while still prioritizing environmental responsibility.

When asked what he loves most about his job, Bache-Wiig highlighted his love for making “functional, durable, and inspiring products.” CustomBeach has recently developed and implemented a new technique to improve manufacturing; a lightweight, durable, and powder coated aluminum frame that combined with Kebony is a fully recyclable product.
