Before renovations began, the existing exterior of the Morris Island Residence was comprised of vertical white cedar planks. The design team discussed whether to reclad the entire structure at length, knowing that it would greatly factor into the cost of the renovation. Ultimately, the team decided to proceed with a full recladding due to the fact that the white cedar was not exceedingly durable. They wanted a more durable, long-lasting, sustainable cladding that would pay homage to the previous aesthetic of the home.
