Pier 26 at Hudson River Park is a river ecology-focused community park that includes a human-engineered marshland called The Tide Deck. This manmade rocky marsh was constructed on a concrete platform, creating tide pools by juxtaposing boulders. Pier 26 offers several other differing environments, ecological habitats, and elevations as well. Sustainability was important to the architect on the project, leading to the selection of Kebony wood for the walkways. Kebony also has the ability to withstand the harsh maritime weather. The pier will ultimately include an estuarium educational center, a playground, and more diverse wetland species.
